Why buy local lumber?

 

Why buy local? 

 

· One thing . . .  you can make saving the rain forests a reality.  I’m not going to recite the facts here, we’re hoping you are aware that the rain forests are losing trees at about an acre per minute. Buy local lumber and help discourage using the wood milled from rain forests.  

 

· Just look around you, land here in Florida is being cleared all the time, so where do all the trees go? Mulch, burn piles, to the dump, and for local fireplaces.  Most of these final destinations are truly not good for the local environment. 

 

· It has been said that around eight million acres of land have been cleared in Florida.  By buying furniture and lumber from wood locally, you can laterally save the trees from going to waste.  These trees  are going to be brought down, but they don’t have to be tossed out!

· It can’t be said enough; cheap wood purchased from a large chain is just that, cheap wood. 

 

The lumber generated from ten and fifteen-year-old trees cannot compare with lumber milled from old trees.  You can ask anyone with experience on this issue.  GSCL uses only lumber milled from quality sources.

· Local stores have no plans to move to Malaysia.  Local businesses operate locally, their income in invested as locally as well.  Local companies have no reason to pick up and leave; they hire local residents and stay around for generations.

 

· No extortion from large companies.  If a large chain is unhappy with the local policies, and taxes, they threaten to leave.  Do you really think companies based outside your local economy are keeping their money in your local economy?  How much is that big corporation really contributing to the local economy, outside of the minimum wage jobs they proudly hail as the reason they need to be here in the first place?
